Mercedes-Benz 280

Description
Features
1969 Mercedes Benz W108 280S. Light Ivory with Red Leather upholstery. The Mercedes-Benz W108 and W109 were luxury cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1965 through to 1972. The line was an upgrade of the Mercedes-Benz W114/W115, to succeed the W111 and W112 fintail sedans. The cars were successful in West Germany and in export markets including North America and Southeast Asia. During the seven-year run, a total of 383,361 units were manufactured. Since the W108 and W109 were only available as 4-door models, similarly squarish 2-door W111 and W112 coups and cabriolets, without pronounced tailfins, filled those niches and are frequently mistaken for W108/109 two-doors. This beautiful 280 started life in Johannesburg and was first registered on 9th October 1969 by J Visser. We are told he was a Pastor and was the only owner of the car in South Africa. The car was imported into the U.K in 2020 and is fully registered with all taxes paid and paperwork in the history file. It was taken to GM Enterprises Mercedes Specialist for a full service and any work required for the mot and registration process, work carried out included removing, stripping and rebuilding the carburettors, renewed seals, gaskets and accelerator pumps, replaced brake servo and master cylinder, remove and rebuild front calipers with new seals and fit new rear calipers. It presents beautifully today and is very original, it hasnt even ever had a radio fitted. Coming from a dry country the car has never been welded and is totally solid throughout with no signs of any corrosion. The paintwork displays a lovely lustre and the rich leather upholstery has minimal wear, the chrome equally as impressive and certainly belies its age. Mechanically the car is very impressive, the six cylinder engine starts easily and runs just as smooth, the manual gearbox is quiet and precise operating with minimal effort and with factory power steering it is an absolute joy to drive. The original Mercedes dealer wallet still accompanies the car some 55 years later and includes a stamped service book, owners manual and a fabulous hand written log detailing maintenance carried out from the early seventies right up to 2016. A real head turner that wants for nothing and is just waiting to be enjoyed in new hands. A car that will grace any showground and be a welcomed addition to any collection . Although now tax and mot exempt a fresh mot will be applied upon sale for your own peace of mind. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Part exchange considered. Free U.K mainland delivery. Please contact us for any further information. Lots more pictures and a video on our website and Facebook page. Please register your interest early so to not be disappointed.
